There are lots of ways to ‘get into’ a book… Here’s a fun way to help your child learn to pay attention to various elements of the text and its meaning.
Choose a book that he/she has read whether alone or with someone else.
Have your child roll a die. Then ask the question below for the number he/she rolled.
1 – Where does the story happen?
2 – Who is the author of the story?
3 – How many full stops can you find in the book?
4 – Who are the main characters in the story?
5 – Which is your favourite page? Why?
6 – What other types of punctuation can you find?
Just a hint… ‘Right answers’ are not as important as the detective work it may take to find the answers in the story.
